According to our 2002 nationwide survey,
(Americans and
Biodiversity: New Perspectives in 2002)...
more Americans are familiar with the term biodiversity than in the past
and their support for species and habitat protection is strong and
growing. But even with this concern, a large portion of Americans fail
to grasp the impact of their personal actions on the health of natural
habitats. What we’re seeking, is behavior change that
drives the big solutions, not just the short-term fixes. To engage
people and motivate action, we need to raise the overall awareness of the
issues that impact biodiversity and offer people concrete "doable" actions
they can take.
Our activities to raise the
profile of biodiversity include:
| ● |
Increasing coverage on biodiversity related topics in
news and niche media. |
| ● |
Increasing awareness and motivation to seek out biodiversity
friendly products and services. |
|
● |
Helping
environmental educators and advocates find ways to rapidly
advance the public's understanding of biodiversity. |
