The Biodiversity Project commissioned public opinion research and created a "message kit" for organizations working on issues related to the eastern forests of the United States. This resource: "Getting the Message: Eastern Forests and Biodiversity" (March 2003), strived to provide advocates and educators with the knowledge and tools necessary to effectively communicate the value of the eastern forests, the threats the forests face, and provide actions that individuals can take to help.

The message kit contains educational fact sheets explaining the connections between Biodiversity and the Eastern Forests, and the issues they face. In addition, the message kit includes communications sheets for nonprofit organizations' and educators' use in crafting strong and persuasive communications messages, as well as identifying target audiences and target outlets.
